Kathmandu. Amidst reports of the rifts within the Nepal Communist Party (NCP), a proposal to convene for a meeting of the party’s standing committee and secretariat has been put forth. After reaching Baluwatar on Saturday, Party Co-Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal (Prachanda), senior leaders Jhala Nath Khanal, Madhav Kumar Nepal and spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha have drafted a written proposal for the meeting. They had also held an informal meeting on Friday.

Party spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha has stated that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is yet to give his approval for the meeting.

Shrestha notified that the proposal was received for a meeting to be convened on Sunday or Monday, however, they have not received a positive response thus far.

Prime Minister Oli had apparently cautioned, when Dahal called for a separate meeting with his confidantes at Dhumbarahi, that the party may split from that point forth. After the warning was issued from the Prime Minister, the gathering on Saturday was termed as an informal meet of the Party secretariat.

The uncertainty over the future of the NCP persists as Prime Minister Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal remain at odds with each other.
