Prime Minister’s National Cup Cricket Tournament to be held in December

Kathmandu. The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has stated that the Prime Minister’s National Cup cricket tournament will be held in December. The board meeting of CAN held on Saturday concluded that the process of getting permissions for the competition will start immediately along with making other decisions. In a statement issued after the board meeting that was organized online, CAN has decided to hold its Annual General Meeting on November 20.

All cricket related activities had come to a halt after the onset of COVID-19. However, this has now been possible after the Association took permission from the National Sports Council to resume the training of the National Cricket team from the second week of November.

The Association has also decided to keep Sompal Kami in Grade B and Sandeep Jora in Grade C, by correcting the error in the player classification, in Chitwan. For the women’s category, decision to keep Saraswati Chaudhary in grade ‘B’ and Mamata Chaudhary in grade ‘C’, had also been made. Considering the coronavirus pandemic, CAN has decided to make players’ contracts for the duration of six months.

The Association’s meeting, with the support of the Indian Embassy, has decided to upgrade the pavilion of Tribhuvan University Stadium, the only international cricket stadium in Nepal, and move forward with the construction and drainage improvisation at the Upper Cricket Ground in Mulpani.

CAN has also decided to appoint the necessary fitness coaches for the national cricket team. It will prepare a three-year strategic plan under the coordination of Prashant Bikram Malla with Rishi Gautam, Durga Raj Pathak, Kailash Bista and Chhumbi Lama, within the following weeks.
