Kathmandu. This week, The Civil Affairs Team from the U.S. Embassy donated 3 continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) devices and 3 bilevel positive airway pressure (BIPAP) devices to the Chautara District Hospital in Sindhupalchowk. This donation comes after a donation of 5 CPAP and 5 BIPAP devices to the Dhulikhel Hospital last week.

These devices have been shown to provide a non-invasive ventilation option for patients that require high-flow oxygen that may not require traditional ventilator support. Not only is this option safer for most patients, but it allows traditional ventilator devices to be reserved for more severe patients.

The U.S. military specializes in humanitarian assistance and disaster relief. Since the onset of COVID-19, the U.S. Embassy’s Civil Affairs team has worked to assist the GoN in the response and readiness of the pandemic. To date, they have donated over 630 lakhs NPR worth of ventilatory support devices, telemedicine kits, and personal protective equipment and continue to be the largest military contributor of COVID-19 relief to Nepal throughout the pandemic.
