Host Australia beats India by 66 runs in the first ODI
Kathmandu. Australia turned victorious against India in the first one-day match played in Sydney on Friday. The home team has started the series with a win defeating the guests by 66 runs.
India chased the score of 375 set by Australia but was restricted to 308 for 8 playing full overs. None from the Indian batting lineup could perform well except Hardik Pandya and Shikhar Dhawan who scored 90 runs and 74 runs respectively.
Australian bowlers Adam Zampa and Josh Hazlewood shared seven wickets between them with Zampa snatching four and Hazlewood clinching three.
Australia had won the toss and opted to bat first. The huge score of 374 runs was formed on the foundation of solid centuries from the openers – Captain Aaron Finch and Steve Smith. Finch hit 9 fours and 2 sixes to get 114 runs out of 124 balls while Smith made a fiery 105 with 11 fours and 4 sixes from 66 balls. Other commendable scores were 69 from David Warner and 45 runs from 19 balls by Glen Maxwell.
Indian Mohammad Shami took three wickets.
