Nepal bags three golds, one silver in World Powerlifting Championship
Kathmandu. Nepal has won three golds and a silver in the World Powerlifting Championship (Men and Women) -2020. The 21st edition of the World Powerlifting Championship was held from December 4 – 8 in Amarawati, India.
In the championship organized by World Powerlifting Federation and Amateur Power Lifting Federation of India, Hasan Gurung bagged gold medal in the 82.5Kg towards senior category
Similarly, Ashish Ale Magar and Shruti Karki secured gold medals in the 110 Kg and 56 Kg category respectively towards the junior group. Likewise, Rajesh Suwal bagged a silver medal in the 100 Kg in the senior category of the Championship.
According to the Nepal Powerlifting Association (NPA), four men, and a woman athlete competed with the international players in the 2020 World Powerlifting Championship. Four of the weightlifters are from Pokhara and the woman weightlifter is from Surkhet.
In a press conference before the eight-member team, including five athletes, two coaches, and a manager left for India, NPA President Sundar Bhusal had expressed his belief that the Championship would be an important step for Nepal to revive sports activities that had halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
