International Migrants Day today, problems of migrants discussed

Kathmandu, December 18. The United Nations General Assembly decided in the year 1990 to adopt a resolution for the rights of migrants. The convention known as ‘International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families’, decided to commemorate December 18 as ‘International Migrants Day.’

While the day is celebrated around the world by the theme ‘Reimagining Human Mobility’ for this year, Nepal also discussed various issues regarding the migrants. Various national and international non-governmental organizations came together to discuss the issues of migrants such as not getting wages on time, lack of health insurances and treatment among others.

Kumar Prasad Dahal, Director General, Department of Foreign Employment said that they conducted a zoom meeting with the Foreign Employment Journalist Society to discuss upon the issues of the migrants, adding that they could not conduct any further programs due to the pandemic.
