Kathmandu, December 31.  A 12-year-old girl from London has decided to file a damage claim against TikTok and its predecessor application ‘Musical.ly’ including six firms which she claims to have used her personal data. She has said that the application caused “loss of control of personal data” and wants her data to be deleted.

According to a decision made by the High Court which was released on Wednesday, the action alleges that the companies “misused the claimant’s private information and processed the claimant’s personal data” in violation of EU and UK data protection laws.

Charles Ciumei, the girl’s barrister has stated that TikTok’s personal data processes are “extensive” including user names, birth and location dates, as well as photographs and videos they created and “device information, IP address, information from connected accounts such as Facebook, browsing history, cookies and metadata.” He also requested the judge to maintain his client’s anonymity as it could affect her stand in online platforms and day-to-day life.

However, a spokesperson from TikTok has said that safety and privacy were their top priorities, especially for their younger audience. They have also said that they came to know about the case only after the High Court judgement and are considering its consequences.
