Kathmandu, January 24. The ruling party, the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has split into two factions after Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli dissolved the House of Representatives due to internal squabbles within the party.

One group is led by KP Sharma Oli while the other group is led by Prachanda-Madhav Nepal. Both have made official claims, and the Election Commission has yet to decide on the issue of authenticity.

With the dissolution of the House of Representatives, the country’s politics has become divided into two parties. Most of the parties have opposed the Prime Minister’s move to dissolve the House of Representatives. But some of them are in favour of not running away from the decision as the election date has been announced, while others are in favour of re-establishing the assembly.

Within the Nepali Congress, which has opposed the Prime Minister’s move, arguments are growing over whether to hold an election or a movement. However, Congress has already launched a two-phase agitation against the Prime Minister’s move.

But there is still argument within the Congress over whether to agitate or go to the election. The Supreme Court is hearing the writ petition against the dissolution of the House of Representatives. But the leaders of the political parties have started street agitation in their favour.

Within the Nepali Congress, especially President Sher Bahadur Deuba is in favour of going to the polls. Deuba has in favour of not going into street agitation right now saying that he should accept whatever the court decides.

However, after the dissolution of the House of Representatives by the Prime Minister, a meeting of office-bearers held on December 20 decided to go into agitation calling the move unconstitutional. Due to the same decision, Chairman Deuba is in a dilemma and the two-phase agitation has been completed.

Meanwhile, senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel has been emphasizing on the restoration of the House of Representatives. Poudel’s supporters have said they cannot support Prime Minister Oli’s move to destabilize the country. Lately, Poudel has started presenting himself aggressively against PM Oli.

On the other hand, there are arguments within the Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) over whether to hold elections or re-establish the assembly.

Former Rastriya Janata Party leaders are in favour of going to the election while former Samajwadi Party leaders are in favour of going for street agitation demanding re-establish the assembly. Moreover, Baburam Bhattarai seems to be in favour of joining the street movement by working together with the Prachanda-Madhav Nepal group.

A few days ago, Prachanda and Bhattarai had a meeting with the Vice President as a witness and also discussed cooperation. However, leaders within the party, including Mahanta Thakur and Rajendra Mahato, are in favour of going to the election. Leader Mahato has been saying in public programs that he should not run away from the election.
