Bird Flu confirmed in Kathmandu, 2,500 birds culled

Kathmandu, January 31. A few weeks after bird flu appeared in India, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development on Saturday confirmed the presence of flu(H5N8) in Kathmandu.

According to the Department of Livestock Services, the flu has been detected in the chickens, ducks and turkeys reared in Tarkeshwar Municipality of Kathmandu.

In order to minimize the risk of the transmission, the department has imposed a complete ban on the import of all kinds of related items. The department also urged the stakeholders to remain vigilant.

According to the official statement, more than 2,569 poultry(birds), 542 eggs and 75 kilograms of grains have been destroyed in Tarkeshwar.
