Opposition parties in discussion to file for impeachment against the president

Kathmandu, May 21. The main opposition party, Nepali Congress, along with other political parties have held a discussion to file an impeachment motion against the president and a no-confidence motion against the prime minister.

A meeting of the office-bearers was held at party the Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba’s residence at Budhanilkantha at 9 am this morning. They discussed about the possibilities of forming an alternative government. On the basis of the meeting, they decided to hold discussions with other political parties.

They have revolted against the president and prime minister’s move and called it unconstitutional on the basis of Article 76(5). According to Article 101 (1) of the constitution, one-fourth of the members of the House of Representatives (HoR) can register an impeachment motion against the President on grounds of serious violation of the constitution and federal law.

The president has called on the Member of Parliament to present a basis until 5 pm today, for taking a vote of confidence in the House of Representatives for the purpose of appointment to the post of Prime Minister in accordance with Article 76(5) of the Constitution.

PM Oli held a press conference at 12:30 pm today and addressed about the recent political developments, expressing concern about the activities of the opposition parties.
