Kathmandu, May 24. President Bidya Devi Bhandari has issued an ordinance to amend the Nepal Citizenship Act.

According to a press statement issued by the Office of the President on Sunday, the ordinance has been issued on the basis of Article 114 of the Nepali Constitution.

The ordinance reportedly was made in order to address the demands of the Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) and to rope in the leaders of the party into supporting PM Oli. The amendments in the ordinance also include to provide Nepali children by descent to be given citizenship. Earlier, only Nepali children by birth were provided with citizenship.
