Supreme Court begins hearing of writs against HoR dissolution

Kathmandu, May 27. The Supreme Court of Nepal on Thursday began hearing on the writ petition filed against the dissolution of the house of representatives. 

The single constitutional bench of the Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana is hearing 19 writs registers at the apex court. 

On Friday, the bench will hear 11 writ petitions filed by 146 lawmakers, including Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, Chairperson of CPN (Maoist Centre), the then leader of CPN (UML) Madhav Kumar Nepal, Chairperson of Janata Samajwadi Party Upendra Yadav and leader of Rastriya Janamorcha Durga Poudel. 

The demands include:

  • Appointment of Sher Bahadur Deuba as new prime minister
  • Restoration of House of Representatives
  • Recognizing President’s dissolving act as illegal and unconstitutional
