Plastic bags to be banned from the new fiscal year

Kathmandu, June 1. The Department of Environment under the Ministry of Forests and Environment has decided to ban plastic bags from the new fiscal year.

The Department has given a press release and said that usage of plastic bags less than 40 microns will be banned from upcoming fiscal year, that starts on July 16.

Business houses, departmental stores and shopping malls have been instructed not use plastic bags. They have requested to use alternatives such as jute, cotton or paper bags. They have also requested the public to abide by the rules.

They have further revealed that the government will bear all the expenses that will be required to reset the companies and factories that had been producing plastic bags less than 40 microns.
