Kathmandu, August 5. The Government of Japan announced the donation of 1.6 million doses of Japanese-made AstraZeneca vaccines on July 13.

Around 800,000 doses of the vaccines are expected to arrive at Kathmandu on August 7 and 8, i.e. this weekend.

According to the statement by the Japanese Embassy in Nepal, “the latter half of the Japanese-donated vaccines for Nepal will be shipped to Kathmandu in due course, under the arrangements with the relevant organizations.”

The statement also read,”In this pandemic, the Embassy of Japan has been tackling COVID-19 together with the Government of Nepal to save more Nepali people’s lives.  This vaccination assistance is one of our challenges even in this hardship; Ambassador Kikuta looks forward to working for the post-COVID society and economy of Nepal.”

The AstraZeneca vaccine can be used as a second dose for Covishield, as Covishield is also one of its types. As many people were waiting for the second dose of India-donated Covishield vaccine, AstraZeneca vaccine comes as a relief.
