Kathmandu, December 5. On Friday, a civil truck carrying 50 passengers was attacked heavily by a group of unidentified gunmen. 31 passengers died during the terror attack near the village of Songho.

Hosseini Saye, Mayor at Bandiagara town in Mopti Region, announced that the firing of the bullets caused the truck to catch fire, as a result, half of the passengers burned to death. “Two people are missing and several others are injured,” the local police said.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack. However, media reports suggest that the local armed groups (backed by al-Qaeda), must have been involved.

The transitional government has intensified security forces in the area. A team has also been deployed to track down the perpetrators of the tragic act.

Interim President Assimi Goita also declared a three-day national mourning from Sunday.
