Ukrainian President holds call with German Chancellor Olaf, French President Macron

Kathmandu, May 18. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held separate phone calls with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and French President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday.

Zelenskyy through a tweet revealed that with the two leaders, he discussed the situation on the frontline, prospects for peace and further sanctions on Russia over the conflict with Ukraine.

Further, Macron and Zelenskyy talked over defense support, more sanctions against Russia, ways to export Ukrainian agricultural products and rescue of military from Azovstal.

Moreover, they also touched upon the matter of Ukraine’s membership to the European Union and the matter of supply of fuel to Ukraine.

Russia expels French diplomats

The Russian Foreign Ministry on Wednesday expelled 34 French diplomats, declaring them as “personae non gratae”.

The statement further read that Moscow took the decision in retaliation with France’s decision to expel 41 Russian diplomats. France-Russia relations will be damaged by the move, added the ministry.

The French diplomats will be ordered to leave Russia within two weeks.
