BTS and Biden to meet at White House on Tuesday
Kathmandu, May 28. South Korean band BTS is scheduled to meet US President Biden at the White House on Tuesday.
They will be discussing anti-Asian hate crimes and celebrate Asian American (AA) and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander (NHPI) Heritage Month. Moreover, Asian advocacy organization Stop AAPI Hate revealed that over 10,000 cases of hate crime has been recorded in the period from March 2020 and December 2021. The number is quite high than the total reported hate crimes.
Further, Biden and BTS are expected to discuss on diversity and how the group can be role models for youths across the country.
Biden had signed COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act into law in May 2021 to combat the increase in hate crimes.
BTS was granted the role of “special presidential envoys for future generations and culture” by the United Nations in 2021.
