Hemja Flood: 500 people displaced as 300 houses remain inundated amid torrential rains

Kathmandu, June 25. More than 500 people have been displaced as a result of the effects of excessive rainfall in Hemja of the Kaski district.

Motiraj Timalsina, who is the ward chair of Chaurashi told reporters that the torrential downpours began on Friday night, causing inundation in the Sundarichowk and Myagdichowk area.

“An irrigation canal burst out and leading to inundation of a large settlement of around 300 houses,” Timalsina said.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Sundar Tiwari from Kaski’s Police Office confirmed that there were no human casualties reported so far in Hemja. However, landslides and flooding have damaged the livestock and infrastructure.

“Relocating the displaced victims to a safer refuge has been a top priority for the public representatives and security bodies,” Tiwari added.
