Kathmandu, October 16. Taiwan has said they won’t be backing down on their sovereignty, after recent comments by Chinese President Xi.

Earlier on Sunday, Chinese President Xi Jinping said, “It is up to Chinese people to resolve the Taiwan issue and China will never renounce the use of force over Taiwan.” He added he is also focusing on ‘reunification’ efforts with Taiwan. The Chinese president said so at the opening of the Chinese Communist Party Congress.

In a same day rebuttal Taiwan has opposed China’s idea of ‘one country, two nations’. Further, a statement from the Taiwan’s presidential office reads, “Maintaining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and the region is the common responsibility of both sides and meeting on the battlefield is not an option.”

China claims Taiwan as its territory, despite Taiwan being split from mainland China in 1949 post a civil war.
