Basanta Bahadur Kunwar new IGP of Nepal Police

Kathmandu, March 25. The Government of Nepal has appointed Basanta Bahadur Kunwar as the new Inspector General of Nepal Police, following a decision made by the Council of Ministers on Friday.

Kunwar is the 30th person to hold the position and succeeds Dhiraj Pratap Singh, who retired after serving thirty years with the Nepal Police.

Under the Police Rules, the government can appoint the police chief based on merit and work performance. Additional Inspector Generals (AIGs) Tek Prasad Rai, Deepak Thapa, Shyam Lal Gyawali, and Kiran Bajracharya also competed for the post.

On Friday evening, a farewell program was organized for the outgoing IGP Dhirpratap Singh. While addressing the official attendees, Kunwar expressed confidence in improving police services by building on the plans set by the police headquarters.

Newly-appointed IGP Kunwar has taken charge of his new office from Saturday.
