Kathmandu, May 26. On Thursday, the central zoo in Jawalakhel, Lalitpur, witnessed a significant increase in visitors, with approximately 12,000 people visiting the zoo on the occasion of the Bhotojatra festival.

Seeing the huge gathering of Bhotojatra observers in the Jawalakhel area, the central zoo offered a 50 percent discount on entry fees throughout the day. “Normally, visitors are required to pay Rs 200 for entry, but on Thursday, the entry fee was reduced to Rs 75. This helped us gain a huge number of visitors,” said Zoo’s Information Officer Ganesh Koirala to reporters.

“On a regular day, the zoo attracts around 3,000 visitors. However, on Thursday, we sold almost 12,000 entry tickets,” he noted.

Koirala further continued, “Due to COVID-19, the zoo has been facing financial difficulties for the last three years. This year, we are hoping that we will be able to meet our annual income target of Rs 200 million rupees, which is 60 million rupees more than last year.”
