Kathmandu, Nov 20: In a thrilling final match, Australia secured their sixth Cricket World Cup title by defeating host nation India by 6 wickets on Sunday. Chasing a target of 241 runs set by India, Australia achieved the victory with 4 wickets down in 43 overs. Travis Head’s outstanding century of 137 runs and Marnus Labuschagne’s unbeaten 58 contributed significantly to Australia’s triumph.
India, having lost the toss, posted a total of 240 runs in 50 overs during their innings. Despite a strong start, India faced a formidable Australian team that displayed exceptional form throughout the tournament.
Australia’s journey to the title was marked by resilience, going undefeated in the last eight matches after initial setbacks. This victory adds to Australia’s previous World Cup triumphs in 1987, 1999, 2003, 2007, and 2015.
