Kathmandu, Jan 12: Trip Advisor, the renowned travel website, has honored Kathmandu, the federal capital of Nepal, as the best natural destination in the world. The accolade was announced as part of ‘Trip Advisor Traveler’s Choice (2024)’ in the category of natural destinations.

Kathmandu claimed the top spot among the world’s top 10 natural destinations, securing its position as the premier choice for travelers seeking a natural haven. This recognition by Trip Advisor, a prominent travel guidance platform facilitating global travel, is based on reviews and responses from millions of consumers.

Maniraj Lamichhane, the director of Nepal Tourism Board, expressed optimism about the positive impact on Nepal’s tourism promotion. He emphasized that Kathmandu’s elevation to the best natural destination will significantly contribute to boosting tourism, especially as the industry recovers from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Director Lamichhane believes that the government’s plan, announced by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda,’ to double the number of foreign tourists visiting Nepal next year will find success with such accolades. In 2023, Nepal welcomed 1,014,882 foreign tourists.

Mustang, a region across the Himalayas in Nepal, has also garnered international acclaim. The New York Times has included Mustang in its list of must-visit destinations worldwide for 2024. Known for preserving its centuries-old rural charm and culture, Mustang has become a cultural and religious hotspot. CNN previously featured Mustang in its list of 23 must-visit places globally, highlighting its famed Pauranika trail for mountain trekking. With attractions like the religious site Muktinath and the historical Lomanthang, Mustang continues to captivate travelers seeking unique and enriching experiences.
