Birganj, Jan 27: Former King Gyanendra Shah was honored in Birganj, where he addressed citizens and expressed apprehensions about the desertification of Madhesh and the increasing migration of youth to foreign countries.

In his speech, Shah highlighted the historical significance of the Terai Madhesh region, emphasizing its role as a grain storehouse and a vital center for enterprise, markets, and business. He voiced deep concerns about the region’s desertification, citing weakening water resources, depleting ponds, and declining water tables over the past two to three decades.

The former King drew attention to the significant issue of promising young entrepreneurs from Madhesh seeking opportunities abroad due to limited employment prospects and forced poverty. Shah emphasized the urgent need to address these challenges to prevent further deterioration of the region.

Reflecting on the unfortunate incident of May 19, 2058, Shah acknowledged the cloud of confusion created around his family’s alleged involvement in the royal family’s tragedy. He stated that this misinformation had dealt a fatal blow to him and his family.

Shah underscored the importance of preserving the country’s originality, identity, and harmonious social relations, cautioning against divisive politics and actions leading to the country’s division.

Expressing his commitment to contributing to the country’s welfare, Shah urged a collective effort to build national unity, foster economic development, and address the concerns of the people. He called for a comprehensive review of the state system, politics, economics, and social conditions, advocating for inclusive development and the well-being of all citizens.

The event took place in Birganj on January 13, 2080, and concluded with the former King extending his gratitude to the organizers and attendees.
