England Players to Skip IPL Playoffs for T20 World Cup Preparation
Kathmandu, Apr 30: England has decided to recall its players participating in the Indian Premier League (IPL) ahead of the playoffs, prioritizing preparations for the upcoming T20 World Cup. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced that players selected for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad will return to England after the league stage matches to participate in a T20 series against Pakistan.
With the IPL playoffs scheduled to culminate on May 26, England’s decision affects eight players, including Jos Buttler, Moeen Ali, Jonny Bairstow, Sam Curran, Liam Livingston, Will Jacks, Reece Topley, and Phil Salt. These players, representing various IPL teams, will miss out on the playoffs to join the national team for the T20 series against Pakistan.
The T20 series against Pakistan, scheduled from May 22 to May 28, serves as crucial preparation for England ahead of the T20 World Cup. The ECB’s directive underscores the importance of aligning player commitments with national team priorities, reflecting England’s ambition to field a competitive squad for the global tournament.
