Search for Buses Swept Away by Landslide in Chitwan Postponed Until Tomorrow
Kathmandu, Jul 13: Today’s search for two buses swept away by the landslide in Chitwan’s Simaltal has been postponed. The police announced that the search operation will resume at 8 am tomorrow.
During the search, the bodies of two more people were found on the banks of the Narayani River in Thumsi, Gaindakot of East Nawalparasi. According to the District Police Office, Chitwan, the body of a man aged between 25 and 30 years was discovered at 3:30 pm on an island in the middle of the Narayani River towards Nawalpur. Local residents informed the police about the body, which was found washed away by the river.
Investigations are underway to determine if the body belongs to a passenger of the bus that went missing on Friday due to a landslide at Bharatpur-27 Simaltal in Chitwan.
The search for the missing buses has been ongoing since Friday morning. Despite efforts by the Nepal Army, Armed Police, and Nepal Police using sonar cameras, water drones, and pipeline inspection systems to search underwater, the buses have not yet been found. The search operation, which began at 8 am on Saturday, initially focused on the accident site but has now expanded to areas downstream.
The condition of both buses and more than 50 passengers remains unknown.
