Plane Crash in Brazil’s Sao Paulo State Claims 61 Lives

Kathmandu, Aug 10: A plane has crashed in the Brazilian state of Sao Paulo, resulting in the deaths of 61 people, including 57 passengers and 4 crew members, according to local authorities.

The twin-engine ATR 72-500 turboprop aircraft was en route from Cascavel in Paraná to Guarulhos Airport in Sao Paulo when it crashed in Vinhedo city before landing, as reported by Vhopas Airlines.

A video circulating on social media shows the plane descending rapidly, appearing to rotate as it falls.

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula extended his condolences to the families and relatives of the victims. The governor of Sao Paulo state has declared three days of mourning.

Officials stated that the flight data recorder recovered from the wreckage will assist in the investigation. Despite the crash occurring in a residential area, no casualties were reported on the ground.
