Kathmandu, Dec 17: A New York court has found Donald Trump guilty in the hush money case involving payments to an adult film star to avoid a scandal during the 2016 election.

The case was argued for dismissal based on the historic immunity granted to Trump by the US Supreme Court. In July, the Supreme Court ruled Trump was exempt from criminal punishment for official decisions made during his presidency.

However, the court ruled on Monday that the hush money case does not fall under Trump’s official presidential decisions.

If upheld, this verdict would mark the first time a US president has received such a sentence. Trump, who recently won the US presidential election, is set to assume office for a second term on January 20.
