President Poudel Urges Justice for Cooperative Victims

Kathmandu, April 15: President Ram Chandra Poudel has expressed serious concern over the ongoing issues in Nepal’s cooperative sector, particularly the plight of small savers affected by mismanagement and crisis-hit institutions.
During a meeting at Rashtrapati Bhawan on Tuesday, President Poudel held discussions with Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation Minister Balram Adhikari and Secretary Arjun Prasad Pokharel. He urged the government to ensure justice for citizens impacted by the collapse or mismanagement of cooperatives and to urgently address the refund issue for small depositors.
According to the President’s Press Advisor Kiran Pokharel, President Poudel emphasized the need for serious government action to resolve these problems.
Minister Adhikari reported that out of 47 cooperatives registered at the central level, 23 have been declared in crisis. He added that the government has already resolved the issues of three cooperatives and is working to address the remaining cases.
Victims of these cooperatives have been protesting for a long time, demanding their savings be returned and accountability from those responsible.
