Kathmandu. The secretariat meeting of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Prachanda-Nepal faction on Sunday has reminded the government the right to freedom of expression as guaranteed by the Constitution of Nepal and called for its implementation by respecting the opinions of the citizens.

The meeting has also expressed its dissatisfaction over the backlashing and ill responses from the government side on the opinions and statements of people regarding the dissolution the House of Representatives (HoR), mainly at the press statement made jointly by the four former chief justices (CJs) of the Supreme Court.

The former CJs had issued a joint statement calling the dissolution of the HoR an unconstitutional move. They mentioned that the Constitution has not provisioned for the right to dissolve the HoR in any other condition except while or for the purpose of forming the Council of Ministers.

Party’s spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha told the media that their group believed in right to freedom of expression and that the government should respect and secure the citizen’s right. The four former Chief Justices of the Supreme Court had made their statements as citizens not as incumbent justices, he said.

The meeting has also called the intellectuals, imminent persons, aware citizens and artistes to unite against the government move to dissolve the HoR and has protested the early prorogation of the National Assembly.
