“CHAKU” making for Maghe Sankranti
By Phurpa Sherpa, Kathmandu, Jan 13 : Maghe Sankranti is a Nepali festival celebrated on the first of Magh (January 14) putting an end to the month of poush’s winter solstice. As Maghe Sankranti approaches, local people start preparing “CHAKU”, a local made dish.
With the festival around the corner, demands of “CHAKU” soars up. Tokha is one of the oldest and popular “CHAKU” making places. Durga Shrestha, owner of Shreelal Chaku Production, Tokha said that the demand for “CHAKU” has increased for Maghe Sankranti in comparison to last year.
She added that CHAKU’s demand comes from different countries such as the US, Australia, Qatar, and more demand used to come from China, not only from our country but due COVID-19 demand has decreased, although we are pleased that we got more demand from our own country.
