Hong Kong collects over 2.38 million signatures for improving the electoral system

Kathmandu, March 22. More than 2.38 million signatures were collected to bring changes in the electoral system of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). An eleven day campaign was held to collect the signatures that ended on Sunday.

Over 210,000 were considered invalid and removed. The campaign had its participants from all walks of life that included students and ethnic minorities.

The president of Hong Kong Federation of Trade Unions said that the improvement of the electoral system will facilitate the steady and sustained implementation of “one country, two systems” and Hong Kong’s long-term peace and stability.

The campaign witnessed participation from over 1,300 organizations and 5,300 volunteers.
