Kathmandu, April 26. Norwegian climber Erlend Ness made an “easy decision” to fly to Nepal to climb Mount Everest in the middle of a pandemic that has crippled the world.
He said that he took the decision since it was cheaper to climb during the pandemic, adding that his guide even offered him free guiding.
Climber Ness continued his climb to the base camp even after he started to ‘feel bad’. The doctors then concluded that he had cracks in his lungs after which he was evacuated to a hospital in Kathmandu. He then tested positive for the virus.
He said that he had tested negative while leaving Norway and upon his arrival in Nepal.
An official from the Department of Mountaineering has said that they have no reports of coronavirus and has only reports of pneumonia and altitude sickness.
All travellers entering Nepal must show a negative COVID-19 test result, taken within 72 hours of their first flight.
