Kathmandu, April 29. A stamp, which is the British Guiana One-Cent Magenta, is the most famous and valuable stamp in the world. It was created in 1856 and has blackcurrant juice knocked over it.

It is currently at display at Sotheby’s London headquarter. When it will go for auction at June in New York, it is expected to sell between $10-15 million. The amount is said to be a billion times its original value.

The stamp was created in British Guiana, now Guyana. It was created when there was shortage of stamps and they were usually imported from England.

The one cent stamps were mainly used for delivering newspapers and most of those kinds of stamps could have been thrown away. But this one still remains until today which one expert termed as a “miracle”.

Its current owner is the American designer Stuart Weitzman, a shoe designer for stars.

The stamp has been auctioned for four times; it has achieved a world record price for a single stamp each time. The auction house has said that proceeds will benefit charitable ventures.
