Biden, Putin to meet at a summit in Geneva in June
Kathmandu, May 26. US President Joe Biden and Russian President Vladimir Putin are about to meet at a summit in Geneva in June. The White House has said that the summit will take place on June 16.
The White House said in a short statement, “The leaders will discuss the full range of pressing issues, as we seek to restore predictability and stability to the U.S.-Russia relationship.”
Kremlin also confirmed about the meeting in a statement that said, “We intend to discuss the state of and the prospects for the further development of Russian-U.S. relations, strategic stability issues, as well as topical issues on the international agenda, including interaction in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic and the settlement of regional conflicts.”
A joint statement also read that both the countries are considering for the normalization of the relations that would contribute for global stability.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov had met U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Iceland last week, which is said to be a move that was for the preparation for the summit.
This is Biden’s first in-person meeting with Putin as president. It is said that Biden initiated for the meeting in a third country through a telephone call with Putin on April 13.
