Bardibas-Birgunj Railway to be fully functional within one and half years
Kathmandu. The construction of 136-km railway line that extends from Bardibas, Mahottari to Birgunj, Parsa is almost completed.
The east-west railway link will usher a new beginning in Province No. 2. Trees along the sides are being cut and the construction work is being done at a rapid pace. The railway will be running at 200 km/hr and one will be able to reach Birgunj from Bardibas in a mere 45 minutes.
The Indian side has completed its job on its side till Raxaul and 25 km out of 108 km of the Bardibas-Simara section has been completed already. “If everything goes as per the plan, the railway will be fully functional within one and a half years,” says Balram Mishra, the Director General of the Railway Department.
Indian company ‘Rights Consultant’ estimated through its feasibility study that it will cost around NRs. 350-450 million per km for the construction of the railway link in 2067 B.S. It was then included in the ‘National Pride Project’ of Nepal and NRs. 69.52 billion was allocated for the construction of 925 km East- West railway link was allocated. RSS
