UK sees sharp rise in Omicron cases; 176 infected in two days

Kathmandu, December 7. On Monday, 90 people in the United Kingdom were diagnosed with a COVID-19 infection caused by the new Omicron variant.
- 64 New Cases were found in England
- 23 new cases were found in Scotland
- 3 new cases in Wales
According to government statistics, a total of 336 people have tested positive for the highly infectious Omicron variant. Northern Ireland remains the only territory that hasn’t seen omicron cases.
Professor Paul Hunter, a renowned expert on infectious disease, told reporters that the omicron variant is spreading at a very high rate. 86 new cases were discovered Sunday alone.
Hunter warned that in the next few weeks, Omicron could “outcompete” the dominant Delta variant.
