Two Shamans in Surkhet arrested for abusing a woman in the name of ‘ancestral ritual’

Kathmandu, December 22. Nepal Police in Surkhet has arrested two priests and a shaman on suspicion of mistreating a woman.

Police Inspector Kanak Bahadur Shahi told reporters that Shamans Bhupendra Gyawali and Milan Gyawali were arrested after a five-minute harassment video went viral on the internet.

Shahi also confirmed that the victim, who was abused in the name of ancestral rituals, has not yet filed an FIR. However, due to video as evidence, the district court ordered the accused to be detained in police custody.
