Leaders of Nepali Congress, UML in discussion
Kathmandu, February 24. Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and Chairperson of the CPN (UML), KP Sharma Oli, have been holding discussion to end deadlock of the Parliament.
The meeting took place at the Federal Parliament Building at New Baneshwor, where other leaders of the Nepali Congress and UML had participated.
Prime Minister Deuba reached out to the main opposition after the ruling alliance failed to find a consensus on the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Compact with the US Government.
Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gyanendra Bahadur Karki and NC General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa had accompanied him in the meeting. Other attendees included UML Vice- Chair Ishwor Pokhrel and party parliamentary deputy leader Subash Nembang.
The UML leaders are again headed to have a meeting with PM Deuba and other Congress leaders at Baluwatar this evening.
The parliament meeting could not take place today. The next meeting of House of Representatives is scheduled for 1:00 pm on February 25.
The deadline to ratify MCC in Nepal is February 28. It is the deadline set by the US Government.
