China Eastern plane crashes at mountains in Southern China

Kathmandu. March 21. A China Eastern aircraft carrying 132 passengers crashed on the mountains of Southern China on Monday.

According to Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), the Boeing 737 flight was enroute Kunming to Guangzhou. The plane lost contact over the Guangxi region.

The plane took off from Kunming shortly after 1:00 pm (0500 GMT), but could not reach the destination on time, after which rumors for the fate of the plane was widespread in the local media.

While earlier state media reports said there were 133 people on board, the CAAC said that the plane was carrying 123 passengers and 9 flight crew members. Furthermore, the CAAC said that they had sent a working group on the ground.

State broadcaster CCTV reported that the plane crashed in Teng county near Wuzhou and “caused a mountain fire”.

The exact number of casualties are not known yet.
