Elephant Tusk Smuggler arrested from Jhapa

Kathmandu, July 14. A team of Nepal Police nabbed a person for involvement in the smuggling of parts of wild animals including elephant tusk.

The special team deputed from Central Investigation Bureau held 25-year-old Ramesh Rai who have been residing in Arjundhara, with an elephant tusk on Thursday.

Bureau’s Spokesperson Superintendent of Police Shyam Kumar Mahato told reporters that the team was searching for the smugglers who illegally transported and sold elephant tusks in Kathmandu on 11 March, 2022.

Recently, the Police had arrested 58-year-old Bhakti Kumar Limbu, 42-year-old Ashok Karki, and 43-year-old Ramesh Subedi, on charges of being involved in the smuggling of dead wildlife.

Mahato also confirmed that the criminals have been submitted to the Hattisar-based Division Forest Office.
