Hurricane Julia hits Nicaragua
Kathmandu, October 9. Hurricane Julia has hit Nicaragua on Sunday. The Category 1 had winds of 85 mph (140 kph) reducing to to 75 mph (120 kph) post few hours with rain.
According to the U.S. National Hurricane Center said Julia was centered about 115 miles (190 kilometers) east of Managua, the capital. Further, mudslides and floods have been predicted through Tuesday in Central America and southern Mexico.
Colombian President Gustavo Petro declared a “maximum alert” as the storm approached east of Nicaragua.
Moreover, Guillermo González, director of Nicaragua’s Disaster Response System revealed people have been evacuated from high risk areas on Saturday noon.
The storm was forecast to sweep across Nicaragua and then emerge over the Pacific and skirt the coasts of El Salvador and Guatemala.
