Kathmandu, October 16. A fire that broke out in Tehran’s Evin Prison has killed four inmates, the country’s judiciary said Sunday.
While the flames rising from the prison were seen Saturday evening, footages were widely circulated in Iranian social media. Sounds of gunshots and explosions can be heard in the videos.
Further, protests against the government for the death of a woman in police custody has entered the fifth week. While authorities attempt to distance events at prison from the protests, state media have revealed conflicting accounts.
According to state media, the fire was put off after several hours and no prisoners escaped.
Evin Prison in Tehran, Iran is said to hold prisoners facing security charges along with political prisoners.
