Dr. Shrestha, Manav Sewa Ashram awarded with ‘Human Rights Award-2079’

Kathmandu, December 21. This year’s edition of the ‘Human Rights Award’ has been awarded to Prof Dr Kapil Man Shrestha and the Manav Sewa Ashram based in Kathmandu.
During a brief ceremony organized inside the Singh Durbar premise, Government Spokesperson and Law Minister Gyanendra Bahadur Karki presented the award to Dr. Shrestha.
Dr. Shrestha was honored for his publishing research, studies, teaching, and advocacy in the sector of human rights for nearly four decades.
The Ashram was also praised for its work of providing treatment, giving counseling, and taking care of orphans and abandoned people. The Ashram has so far rescued around 8,000 people stranded in the streets. More than 1,000 of them were reunited with their families. The Ashram was also praised for managing the unattended dead bodies.
Any individual or organization working in the field of human rights are given the award. A revolving fund was established in 2078 BS for the same purpose. It was established on the occasion of the issuance of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the Government of Nepal.
