Kathmandu, January 1. Animal Expert Center on Sunday confirmed that the African Swine Fever has been spreading among pigs in several areas across the Myagdi district.

Center Chief Jeevan Prasad Acharya told reporters that more than 300 pigs have died so far due to the infection in Beni and rural areas of the district. “The samples collected from pig farms in Annapurna rural municipality were detected with the African Swine Fever virus,” Acharya said.

Acharya further explained, “there is no complete cure for this disease, however, the spread can be checked through vaccination and isolation.”

We are conducting campaigns to aware people of the virus. We are urging farmers to isolate the suspected animals and inform the center before disposing of the dead animals in pits.

“The virus does not affect human beings,” Acharya said.
