Maharajgunj hit and run case kept as a secret for six days
Kathmandu. On 23 September 2020, Anupa Karki Pandey and her husband, residents of Budalinkantha Municipality-06, were walking towards Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH). As they crossed the road, a Yamaha FZ motorcycle coming from Lazimpat hit them, and the impact hurled the couple to the opposite side of the road.
Suddenly, a speeding vehicle (Ba 11 Cha 4141) struck Anupa. She died on the same day while undergoing treatment at TUTH while her husband sustained minor injuries.
The motorcycle and the car both escaped from the scene of the crash. Demanding action against the culprit, the people’s representatives of Budhanilkantha Ward No. 6 filed a complaint at the Metropolitan Police Circle (MPC), Maharajgunj. Navin KC, Chair of Budhanilkantha Municipality Ward No. 6 informed that the police had captured a vehicle owned by Congress leader Deepak Khadka, with the help of a CCTV footage.
KC claimed that Khadka was staying out of contact and has been trying to put the blame on the driver. Khadka’s driver was detained by the MPC, Maharajgunj, for being involved in the incident.
Deputy Superintendent of Police of the MPC Maharajgunj, however, reported that locals have lodged a complaint against Khadka alleging that the accident took place while he was driving. He also confirmed that the search was on for the motorcyclist.
