Indian Army recruiting large number of Nepalis in its force

Kathmandu. Amidst escalating tensions between India and China, the Indian Army has planned for the recruitment of large number of Nepali citizens. As there have been skirmishes at borders and both nations have turned aggressive against each other, the call for admission of Nepali citizens has raised eyebrows.

The Indian Air Force has begun pre-registration for different posts. The Air Force has called for admissions for Airmen Group X, Group y and Group Y Non-technical trade from Gujarat, Karnatak, Orissa, Bihar, Hariyana and Rajasthan. Unmarried Indian and Nepali are eligible for the posts.It’s not clear as to how many will be recruited but there are speculations of the number being in thousands.

Voices have been raised as to end the Gorkha recruitment in the Indian Army in protest of rising border issues between India and Nepal. Minister of Foreign Affairs Pradeep Gyawali had underscored that Gorkha recruitment in the Indian Army was irrelevant in the present context. The Biplav faction of the Maoists had urged India not to deploy Nepali soldiers against China

On the other hand, India had stressed on the importance of Gorkha soldiers.  Former Indian ambassador to Nepal, Manjeev Singh Puri, has said that if Nepal didn’t supply the Gorkha soldiers, they will be supplemented  from among the Gorkha community in India.

Another former ambassador Ranjeet Ray opined that it was a huge opportunity for the Nepali youths to be recruited in the Indian Army. He insinuated that exclusion of the Gorkha soldiers from probable wars against neighboring nations was unacceptable and unthinkable.
