Kathmandu Mayor Balendra Sah conducts inspections of community schools as part of Book Free Friday Initiative

Kathmandu, May 21. On Friday, Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balendra Sah conducted inspections of community schools within the metropolis.

Sah visited Shivapuri Secondary School in Maharajgunj and Padma Kanya Secondary School in Dillibazar, taking stock of teaching and learning methods, as well as vocational skills.

“It’s a pleasure to have the opportunity to sit with students and learn about educational activities through the ‘skill-based program,” said Sah. He also noted the positive impact of the ‘book free Friday’ program on student and teacher participation.

During the inspection, Sah gathered information about the school’s current situation, required infrastructures, human resources, and other needs for the holistic development of children.

Media reports suggest that Mayor Sah’s commitment to engaging with students every Friday to discuss educational activities highlights his dedication to improving the educational landscape within the metropolis. 

Within the KMC, there are 89 community schools operational, consisting of 59 secondary and 30 primary schools, with an enrollment of approximately 52,000 children. Additionally, there are 540 private schools in operation, with an enrollment of around 150,000 children.
