Bir hospital converts 700 general beds to FREE beds
Kathmandu, June 24. The Bir Hospital, the oldest health facility in the country, made a significant announcement on Friday as it declared its plan to convert all 700 general beds into ‘free beds’.
The decision was collectively made by the executive council of the National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS), as confirmed by Hospital Director, Dr. Santosh Poudel. This decision comes as a result of the dedicated efforts of Minister for Health and Population, Mohan Bahadur Basnet.
Previously, the hospital used to charge Rs 200 per day for the general category beds, but now these beds will be available to patients completely free of charge.
Bir Hospital, established in 1947 BS with just seven beds and five staff members, currently houses a total of 960 beds, which include general beds, cabin beds, and intensive care units (ICUs).
