Urgent Repairs Needed for Nepal-India Suspension Bridge in Darchula District

Darchula, July 15 : A suspension bridge connecting Nepal and India in Mahakali Municipality-9, Darchula district, has suffered damages, causing difficulties in cross-border human mobility. The bridge serves as a vital link between the Dattu area of Mahakali Municipality and Baluwakot in Uttarakhand, India.

According to media reports, the District Administration Office in Darchula has urged locals to refrain from traveling across the bridge due to a snapped cable in the suspension structure. In a statement issued on Friday, the office emphasized the importance of conducting technical tests before walking over the bridge.

Assistant Chief District Officer Pradip Singh Dhami stated, “A cable of the bridge on the Indian side has broken. We have advised people to travel only after necessary maintenance work has been completed.” The bridge is currently under assessment for repairs, and authorities are working to ensure the safety of the cross-border passage.

This unfortunate incident has significantly impacted the daily mobility of hundreds of people traveling between Nepal and India. Residents from Mahakali, Malikarjun, Lekam, and Shailya Shikhar regularly visit the Indian markets in Baluwakot to purchase essential commodities.

The damaged suspension bridge has raised concerns among locals and authorities, highlighting the need for immediate attention to restore seamless cross-border connectivity.
